Imagine…Respite

It began on January 22…our pilot project of Imagine…Respite!! And what a wonderful evening it was! It was hard to tell who had more fun, the kids or the volunteers!

Held at Northview Community Church, Imagine…Respite is a monthly evening event where volunteers will care for children with challenges such as medical, developmental, behavioural, so that parents can get out and have a break. The evening includes dinner of something like pizza and snacks for the kids, games and activities, singing and Bible stories.

Evening Agenda:

5pm                  Volunteers arrive

5:15 – 5:30        kids’ drop off time and free-time play (Parents leave, go away, go out for dinner, go shopping, go do whatever they want! :)

5:45ish             dinner for the kids and volunteers

6ish                  half the group:planned sports and activities

half the group: heads upstairs for singing, Bible stories, and crafts.

6:50ish            the groups switch

7:45ish              everyone heads back downstairs for snacks and Veggie Tales movies.

8:15                   pick up kids.


Parents can go out and, if they like, return to Checkers coffee shop at 7:15 for dessert and have coffee and lattes, where they can meet other parents and various professionals in the special needs field, before picking up their kids.

First priority will be given to families not receiving respite or or not enough, or unable to find caregivers.
